Nation’s top prep QB for Class of ‘22 commits to Ohio State

Three weeks after changing his mind and deciding he didn’t want to be a Texas Longhorn, after all, the nation’s top-ranked high school football recruit for the class of 2022 now says he’ll be an Ohio State Buckeye.Quarterback Quinn Ewers announced Thursday that he has committed to Ohio State, tweeting that he is “COMMITTED!!” to coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, who have eight commitments in the 2022 class, which is ranked first nationally by the 247Sports Composite.COMMITTED!! #Godsplan pic.twitter.com/7bLQrU8hAzThe 6-foot-3 Ewers, who is the top-ranked player in the ESPN 300 and 247Sports Composite rankings, plays at Southlake Carroll High School near Dallas. He also was heavily pursued by Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and Oklahoma.His decision marks the third consecutive recruiting class in which the player ranked atop the ESPN300 has cast his lot with the Buckeyes, joining receiver Julian Fleming of Catawissa, Pa. (2020), and defensive end Jack Sawyer out of Pickerington, Ohio (2021).
